Suryakant Pathak | Updated on: 25 July 2017 12:04 PM

Dear Sir,
well noted. I have read the book . In book “Milind prashna” it is wrriten that ” upadan karan shesh asel tar jannm hoeil”. what is the meaning of ” upadan? According to book Buddha & dhamma there is no ” punarjanma”.
So what is that thing which exists ever after death & causes birth ?learn that Nirvana is the stage of happiness & breaks the cycle of birth & death. Will you pls. explain cycle of birth & death?
I hope my question is clear .
Regards

“Upadana is a technical term and may need elaboration to grasp it fully. However it can be grasped in the context of paticcasamuppada, in which the Buddha described how suffering is created by the chain of 12 links and how suffering can be destroyed by breaking this chain of causes and conditions. The simple formulation of paticcasamuppada is “If this is, that is; If this is not, that is not. With the arising of this, that arises; with the cessation of this, that ceases”. Upadana (In English, Grasping or Clinging or attachment) arises depending Tanha (Craving or compulsive thirst like state when our mind just want something). With Craving as a condition, Clinging/attachment is the result. Upadana (attachment/clinging) is the condition for becoming (Bhava). This becoming leads to being (birth). The word for being is Jati, which simply means to be. It can not be taken as birth/rebirth. The becoming is happening all the time because of grasping and grasping is happening all the time because of craving. It is a process which explains how we are depending on what we crave for and to achieve what we crave for we grasp. This entire process explains how we experience the world and how we become what we are and this becoming is cyclic and repetitive. The statement in Milind Panho is right as far as process is concerned ” So long as there is a clinging, there is a becoming and based on that there will be a state of being”. Babasaheb Ambedkar put it very nicely in a terse manner when he said “Being is Becoming”. To be is to become. This “To Be” in Pali is Jati, which is sometimes wrongly interpreted as Rebirth.”
Dear Sir,
Well noted will you pls. advise me the book in marathi (paticcasamuppada)& where can i get it ?
